Transforming the Medication Pass

Transforming the Medication Pass: Individualizing Care and Managing Workflow

The medication (or med) pass schedule affects residents’ sleeping, waking, activities, and meals. When it is done without regard for individual rhythms, it can contribute to sleepless nights and groggy days, and can induce agitation. Simply adjusting medication schedules to individual sleep/wake times can help residents get good solid sleep and restore their morning routine, allowing good sleep to contribute to physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. There are many ways to improve how medications are given to individuals in care settings.
