Making Sure Everyone’s Included in the Process

Making Sure Everyone’s Included is key to success in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement. Hear staff from Sea View Hospital Rehabilitation Center & Home in Staten Island, New York share their work to reduce antipsychotic medications by learning what residents’ like and dislike and adjusting care and routines accordingly. Staff at Sea View regularly communicate and problem solve together. Staff closest to the residents huddle routinely to share with each other about what residents like and don’t like. They share this information in stand-up huddles at the nurses station with clinicians who round regularly, and in performance improvement team meetings during case reviews. With these regular ways to communicate and problem solve staff throughout the organization work together to meet residents’ needs. This infrastructure for communication throughout the organization allows Sea View to succeed in any quality improvement endeavor. Sea View is part of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and a participant in the IPRO New York State Learning and Action Network.
